NYANDARUA, 3 September 2020 (PSCU) – First Lady Margaret Kenyatta’s Beyond Zero program has been commended for promoting partnerships that are helping boost delivery of health services in counties.

Nyandarua County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health Dr John Mungai has said that by embracing Beyond Zero’s partnership model, the county has been able to bring on board various health stakeholders in its efforts to deliver quality health services to residents.

“The momentum we got from last year’s Beyond Zero Medical Safari that brought together various organizations has enabled us to be among the top counties in the country in terms of providing healthcare for mothers and babies,” Dr Mungai said.

Dr Mungai was speaking today at Njabini Health Centre in Nyandarua during an orthopaedic screening outreach camp for children with physical disability.

The medical camp was organized by the Nyandarua county department of health in partnership with Kijabe-based AIC Cure International Hospital that is dedicated to treating children with disabilities.

About 300 needy children with deformities were targeted for screening and treatment including surgery during the camp that also saw National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) register new members.

Nyandarua County First Lady Mrs Ann Kimemia, who also spoke during the occasion, thanked First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for donating two Beyond Zero Mobile Clinics to the county that have helped to take medical services closer to the residents of Nyandarua.

“I am motivated by Her Excellency First Lady Margaret Kenyatta because her energy and spirit in caring for the health of mothers and children is unmatched,” Mrs Kimemia said.

Nyandarua County Chief Officer of Health Nelson Kimilu said by adopting the Beyond Zero’s partnership model, the county has created synergies among stakeholders in the health sector that are transforming lives.
